I love samurai, and science fiction and space operas and comic books and heroes and epics and mythology and over-romanticizes mysteries. And I found all of that in Metabarons.
For those after the 80s, the name of Jodorowski and Moebius is perhaps unknown, and that implies a lack of knowledge of the Incal series. And that is where our story beings… or not.. our story beings in the 70s, with the best movie never made… Dune by Jodorowsky.
Frank Herberts Dune is this icon bible of science fiction, and while David Lynch made an amazing adaptation of it, there was a version that circulated before he was commissioned to film it.
This version made by Jodorowsky was so far ahead of its time, that it was technically impossible to make. There are however rumors that it could happen now
But what does this have to do with Metabarons?
Well, thanks to Holliwood pussying out of Dune challenge, Jodorowsky incorporated many aspects of his original Dune into Metabarons.
When in 80s Incal series appeared, written by Jodorowsky and drawn by Moebius, there was a peculiar episode character in it – the Metabaron. An ultimate warrior of amazing skill, who could fight the entire universe on his own.
When Incal series finished, Jodorowsky felt it was time to introduce a new series – on that would revolve around Metabaron only.
And the saga began. Staring with Metabarons Great Great GrandFather Othon van Salza, and it told a story of the caste of Metabarons began, what its roots are, and how such powerful warrior came to existence.
Placed in our universe, albeit in the future so far away, that is hard to tell if it even has anything to do with our timeline or world at all… in fact as you read on, the story spans across multiple universes..
But let me not spoil it for you.
Instead let me tell you a bit about the Metabarons themselves… Starting with the first Metabaron – Othon van Salza
